Does anyone work anymore?

I feel like automation is taking over the world. Everywhere you call, there’s an automated message. You can’t even talk to a real person anymore. And don’t even get me started on self-checkouts at grocery stores. What ever happened to good old customer service? And when something goes wrong, we’re the ones who have to figure it out.

It seems like there’s no need for human workers anymore. We can bag our own groceries and check ourselves out. So why are there still 5–8 workers just standing around in every store? Wouldn’t it be more efficient if they were actually working the cash registers? I feel like I’m doing all the work while they’re getting paid. It’s not fair! Where have all the workers gone?

I even got told from my bank to do everything online because I don’t need to go into a branch anymore. Unless I am literally depositing cash, I can do everything myself online. So why do they even have branches? And when you do call customer service, you’re lucky if you can get a human on the line. Most of the time you’re stuck talking to a machine. My phone has a timer and I have literally waited over one hour to talk to someone. It’s insane.

And why do we need people and not robots? Here’s just one example. I belong to several groups on Facebook. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve…
